C'mon Dragons!!!!!
That was the hearty cheer heard across the length and longth (there's that non-word word again!) of Cockle Bay in Sydney's Darling Harbour from 8am, last Saturday morning.

For it was day one of the Annual Dragon Boat races, held during the Chinese New Year Celebrations and I was there, accompanied by the lovely and talented A-N.

The best part about yelling 'c'mon dragons'???? Well with just about every crew having 'dragon' in their team name somewhere.. ie... Pacific Dragons, Sydney Dragon Blades, Ice Dragons, Dragons Abreast, Water Dragons, Penrith Pendragons.... you were pretty much covered for whoever was in the water at the time!!!!
They don't exactly turn on a dime do they!
One exception to the dragon name thing were The Sloths... who basically tore up the water in just about every category they'd entered in.... sometimes leaving the rest of the field behind by a couple of boat lengths!

Some of the dragons came plowing down the bay so fast.. it was a huge case of WHOOOOAAAA THERE NELLY' before they became dragon boat pate on the wharf!!!

It was a truly fantastic day... admiring the physical prowess of all the teams.... the scrumptious traditional yummies on offer from the myriad of stalls.. (A-N and I sampled more than our fair share of those!!)... the physical prowess of all the teams... the brilliant 'Lion Dance'....

.... and 'eye dotting' ceremony, used to 'awaken' the dragons and bring them to life AND admiring the physical prowess of all the teams (A-N and I didn't get to sample any of those though!).
Has me really looking forward to the Sydney International Dragon Festival in April!!
